Simulated Derby Summary
Three Lanes; 25 Cars; Single Division

This summary data was generated from the output file of a simulated Derby.
The Derby had a single Division of 25 cars.
The Number of Lanes was set to three (3).
The Elimination Threshold was set to six (6).
Total Number of Derby Races :  37
Elimination Round : 34
Finals Round : 3
Estimated Derby Execution Time : 40 minutes to an hour. (Your mileage may vary!)
Elimination Round Summary
Round Races Cars
1 9 25
2 9 25
3 9 25
4 5 14
5 2 6
An Elimination Threshold value of 6, 7, or 8 all guarantee 3 races for each car on a three lane track. Choosing a lower value results in faster elimination after the minimum number of rounds. Notice that the number of races and cars falls off rapidly in Rounds 4 and 5.
Finish Order and Elapsed Time Statisitics
  Finish Order ElapsedTimes
  Lane 1 Lane 2 Lane 3 Lane 1 Lane 2 Lane 3
Median 2 2 2 2.5385 2.5450 2.5441
Average 1.946 2.054 2 2.5452 2.5496 2.5498
Min 1 1 1 2.5080 2.5100 2.5082
Max 3 3 3 2.5996 2.6278 2.6166
Even in a simulated race, there can appear to be a "fast" lane. Notice that Lane 1's average finish order and elapsed time is slightly lower than the other two. In this simulation, the car elapsed times were set to be fairly close to each other. If more variance between the cars had been used in the simulation, this effect may have been even more pronounced. Determining a "significant" variation is a very difficult problem.
